Long John Silver’s Batter Recipe

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup club soda, cold

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, sugar, baking soda, onion powder, and garlic powder in a bowl. Whisk to mix.
  2. Slowly add cold club soda while whisking continuously until smooth.
  3. Let batter rest for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Dip seafood, chicken, or vegetables into the batter, ensuring even coating.
  6. Fry in hot oil for 3-4 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
  7. Drain on paper towels and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.
